Riparian Forest Buffer Practice
Purpose is to reduce excess amounts of pollutants in surface runoff, and limits (can have access points) livestock access to streams.
How much does it pay? Cost share is offered at 75% of county average or actual cost for establishment of those components technically necessary to certify the practice according to NRCS. Such components might include wells, fence, pipeline, tanks, etc.
Maintenance Life
This practice has a 10-year maintenance agreement that says the landowner will maintain the practice in accordance to NRCS standards for the life of the practice.

Alternative Watering Practice
Purpose is to encourage landowners to limit or exclude livestock from the stream and streamside management zone and improve water quality by providing an alternative water source.
What does it help pay for? Cost-share incentives are available for fencing off the stream, well (for livestock only), pipeline, tanks, etc.

This practice has a 10-year maintenance agreement that says the landowner will maintain the practice in accordance to NRCS standards for the life of the practice.

Stream Bank Stablization
Purpose is to protect steambanks from accelerated erosion, provide adequate streambank vegetation, and improve water quality on a watershed basis.
What does it pay for? Components necessary for cedar tree revetments, rock riprap, and bioengineering materials. Seed or seedlings, seedbed preparation and planting. Fencing, if needed, to exclude livestock from the stream and its associated corridor. Cost-share shall not exceed 75% of the county average cost or actual cost, not to exceed per landowner and/or farm.

This practice has a 10-year maintenance agreement that says the landowner will maintain the practice in accordance to NRCS standards for the life of the practice.

Use Exclusion
Purpose is to protect, maintain or improve the quality of the plant, soil, and water resources.
What does it pay for? Fencing will be a flat rate of $.10 per linear foot of electric fence, and $.25 per linear foot for barb fence.
A per acre, one-time, incentive may be authorized not to exceed 100 acres per contract for the area excluded. (This incentive payment is not available on the same acres receiving Riparian Forest Buffer financial assistance).
